Te Hākari Tapu (also called Kai Hapa, The Lord’s Supper, Te Whakawhetai Nui, Eucharist, and Holy Communion) is a sacrament generally considered to be a re-enactment of the Last Supper, the final meal that Ihu Karaiti shared with his ākonga before his arrest and crucifixion, during which he gave them bread, saying, “This is my body”, and wine, saying, “This is my blood”. Te Hākari Tapu is the principal Tikanga Karakia and service of the Te Hāhi Mihinare.
Rūmaki Karakia are aimed at Kaikarakia and those accepted into training to become Kaikarakia but are open on a case-by-case basis to all minita in Te Tairāwhiti.
