The authorised ministry of Te Pīhopatanga o Te Tairāwhiti is carried out through the following lay and ordained ministries:

KAIKARAKIA

Kaikarakia are lay ministers, trained, commissioned, and licensed by the Church, to lead and assist in karakia within Te Tairāwhiti.

Ordained Ministry

RĪKONA / DEACON

Deacons serve in the name of Te Karaiti, and are symbols to the whole Hāhi that serving others is essential to all ministry. Deacons baptise, preach, give instruction in the whakapono, and have a special ministry to read ngā Karaipiture, lead inoi, and administer the Hākari Tapu in worship.

PIRIHI / PRIEST

Priests celebrate the sacraments (e.g. Te Hākari Tapu, Mārena, Iriiri), lead worship, teach and preach, provide pastoral care, undertake mission and evangelism, and by example point to the life of Te Karaiti.

Priests may minister in a number of roles such as in a pāriha or rohe, or as a chaplain in various organisations and communities.
